It's no secret that the Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi is one of the best sound cards out on the market for gaming, but if you're looking to save some money and you're not interested in custom overclocking your sound card, Creative has an alternative for you: an emu10k1x-dbq sound driver that is free with their X-Fi card purchase. This article will run through some simple steps to getting this mysterious piece of code up and running on Windows 7. First off, download this file (Windows 7 SP1 32 bit) from here: http://www.softpedia. com/get/System/Drivers/Drivers-Update/Creative-Sound-Blaster-XFI.shtml Once you have the driver downloaded, follow these steps: 1) After downloading the file, right click on XFi_SB0360_100106.zip and click on "extract all" this should create a folder called "XFi_SB0360_100106" which will have the driver in it. 2) Open up Device Manager by pressing the Windows Key + R at the same time and type in devmgmt.msc (this brings up a box for "devmgmt.msc - Device Manager") then press enter. 3) In the device manager click on the arrow under Sound, video and game controllers. This will bring up a list of audio devices, you should see emu10k1x DAC listed here. Right click on this and select properties. 4) The Properties screen will come up for emu10k1x DAC, in the properties window there are 4 tabs. Click on the Driver tab at the top of this sub-window. 5) Under "Driver", click on "Update Driver" then click on "Browse my computer for driver software". 6) Navigate to the folder that you extracted earlier on your drive. You should see a sub-folder called XFi_SB0360_100106 which you downloaded earlier. Right click on this sub-folder and select "extract all". 7) After extracting, go back to the Device Manager window again, this time under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" look at your new emu10k1x DAC device in the list again under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" right click on it and choose Update Properties. 8) Highlight emu10k1x DAC in the properties window then click on Update Driver then "Browse My Computer For Drivers". 9) You should see a sub-folder called XFi_SB0360_100106. It should have the driver for X-Fi sound hardware inside it. Right click on this sub-folder and select "extract all". If you do not see this sub-folder, make sure you are in the correct directory. 10) After extracting, click back to the device manager window again, this time under "Sound, Video and Game controllers" look at your emu10k1x DAC device in the list again under "Sound, Video and Game controllers", right click on it and choose Update Properties. cfa1e77820
